Portraits of the Blues features cover renditions of country blues songs by Darrell Arnold, accompanied by Jack Shawde, who also produced the record. The album accompanies a book of the same title that outlines the lives and socio-cultural background of the original blues artists whose music is featured on this album: Bessie Smith, Robert Johnson, Tommy Johnson, Mississippi John Hurt, Skip James, Robert Petway, and Lightnin’ Hopkins. Besides Darrell’s vocals and acoustic guitars, Jack plays numerous other guitars and instruments throughout. Diane Ward plays percussion, Bob Taylor, keyboards, and Frank Tedesko cello. Darrell’s guitars and vocals were recorded by Looch at Miami Beach Recording Studios. Other instruments were recorded by Jack Shawde and in other studio spaces. The album was mixed and mastered at Miami Beach Recording Studios. We’re very excited about the album and book. Darrell Arnold’s latest wonderful album “Changing World” is produced by one of South Florida’s most sought after musicians and producers, Jack Shawde, who plays lead guitars and other stringed instruments on it.
